Huh

Popstar meltdown. Too bad, I actually kind of liked her music.

Breakdown, meltdown, both result in a long stay at the a high-end loony bin and no more music for a while.

'Loony bin' is so subjective.

The word changes based on income, but it all breaks down to the same thing.

Oh, are we getting classist now?

[identity profile] xp-erverse.livejournal.com 2015-04-15 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Identifying how different language is used to describe the same situations for various economic classes - so rich people get to go to ~recuperative spas~ while poor people are thrown into rehab for their addiction - is literally the opposite of classist.

Yes, what this kid said. I like you, kid. No clue who you are, but I like you.

I'm new.

[identity profile] x-deadpool.livejournal.com 2015-04-15 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, I'll give you that. But consider the tone of the conversation and the implication that the popstar in question had a meltdown and it was, therefore, probably addiction-related as opposed to stress induced by being overworked or whatever. That implication is classist.

[identity profile] xp-erverse.livejournal.com 2015-04-16 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Nonsense. If Alison Blaire were poor and we concluded that her "exhausation" was drug-related instead of related to stress, then it'd be classist. But the bitch is rich as hell. She can't be the target of classism.

[identity profile] x-deadpool.livejournal.com 2015-04-16 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Classism is prejudice against or in favor of people belonging to a particular social class. It can go either way. Rich, poor, whatever.

Yeah, life must be really hard when all the odds are stacked in your favor. I bet you also believe that you can be racist against white people and that feminism is bringing down men.

And here I was thinking that I'd been invited to a school. What kind of learning goes on here?

[identity profile] x-plosive.livejournal.com 2015-04-16 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I don't love all this philosophy all up in my blog, 'cause I do, really, but did you guys forget the importance of teenaged meltdowns? Kids gotta cut loose!

Sorry, tabby cat. I'll stop bickering with the quibbler on your blog.
